For nearly everyone moving one continuous pallet load, a 40 ft is the better call, and its pallet count is the reason why.
Depth is the part people underestimate on a 40 ft. Once a pallet sits 30 feet back, nothing in front of it moves without a jack and a clear lane, so the order you load in decides how usable the box is six months later. Put what you will want first nearest the doors and work backward from there.
The door end carries the sill and the frame, and it is the only end that opens on a standard 40 ft. That last few feet is where a pallet jack has to turn and where the doors need room to swing past the corner posts. Packing that strip solid is exactly what costs you the working aisle, and it is the whole difference between a packed 20 and a workable 18.
