An as-is container is a used box sold with known problems and no promise about dryness or condition, the bottom rung of the grade ladder. Containers Delivered does not sell as-is units; every container that leaves our yard is at minimum wind and watertight.
As-is doesn't describe one condition, it describes the absence of a promise. One as-is box might have a single soft spot in the floor and otherwise be solid. Another might have a rusted-through roof, a racked frame and a door that won't close. The label tells you the seller isn't standing behind the condition, not what that condition specifically is.
That's the whole risk of the grade: it varies wildly from one individual unit to the next, and the only way to know what you're actually getting is to look at that exact box.
In practice, as-is is where a container lands once it no longer clears wind and watertight: known holes, soft or spongy floor sections, a roof gone through to rust, or a frame twisted enough that the doors won't seal. It's sold for what it is, with the buyer accepting whatever that turns out to be.
That has a real use: as-is boxes work as donor steel for a welding or salvage project, where the flaws don't matter because the container isn't going to hold anything dry. It's the wrong grade for storage.
Because condition swings so much box to box, the only reliable check is a hands-on inspection of the specific unit, not the grade name on a listing. Open the doors and see if they seal. Step inside with them closed and look for daylight through the walls or roof. Press on the floor for soft spots. Look at the roof from above rather than guessing from the ground.
None of that is possible from a photo taken at a flattering angle, which is exactly why as-is listings sold sight unseen carry the most risk in this business.
We don't sell as-is containers. Every unit that leaves our yard, whether it's a budget cargo-worthy box or a premium one-trip, is at minimum wind and watertight: no holes, no soft floors, no patched-over rot. If a box on our lot fails that bar, it doesn't go on the truck.
Walk our yard and check any box yourself before you buy.
