Buyers who reach for the word cargo-worthy usually aren't comparing steel quality, since every grade we sell is the same steel underneath. The decision underneath this term is simpler: will this container sit somewhere you look at daily, or somewhere it just needs to do its job? Cargo-worthy is built for the second answer.

If a box is headed behind the barn, onto a jobsite, or into a back corner of a lot, the deciding factor is price and function, not paint. That's exactly where cargo-worthy earns its keep.

What the certification behind the name means

Cargo-worthy isn't a marketing adjective, it describes a real bar a used container has to clear: the structure is sound enough that it could still be loaded and shipped overseas today. That bar covers the walls, the floor, the roof and the doors. A box with holes, a rotted floor, or doors that won't seal doesn't qualify, no matter what a listing calls it.

What CW does not promise is a clean look. A box that clears the bar can still show surface rust across the panels, paint gone chalky from years of service, and dings where a spreader or a chassis caught it. Cosmetic, every bit of it, and the grade does not measure any of it.

Where cargo-worthy sits against WWT and as-is

Wind and watertight sits right beside cargo-worthy: it promises a dry box but skips the shipping certification. As-is sits well below both, meaning known problems and no promise of dryness at all. We treat cargo-worthy and wind and watertight as functionally the same for storage purposes and price them together; as-is is not a grade we sell.

What buying cargo-worthy here looks like

A used 20-ft cargo-worthy container starts at $3,200, delivered and leveled free within 75 road miles of Woodlawn, with a welded lockbox already on the box. A 40-ft runs around $4,900 on the same terms.

Because the grade covers a wide range of individual boxes, from lightly weathered to well used, the honest move is to walk the yard in Woodlawn or the lot in Wytheville and pick the specific container before it goes on the truck.
