The short version

The truck, the trailer, and the tilt-bed.

Most of our deliveries go out on a tilt-bed trailer. The truck tilts the bed up in back and slowly pulls forward while the container slides off under its own weight, coming to rest flat on the ground behind it. A spot your driveway can't back a trailer into is a genuinely different job, one that gets craned in and quoted separately, but for the normal Hillsville driveway or yard, the tilt-bed handles the whole thing.

Because Hillsville sits only about 8 road miles from the yard on US-58 and US-221, this is the most straightforward delivery run we make. Less highway time means less that can go sideways with traffic or weather along the route, and it tends to make scheduling around your day a little easier to work out on the phone. We still cannot promise a specific day, every yard has a queue, but the logistics themselves are simpler being this close.

Buying and renting look identical on delivery day. The trailer does not know or care whether the container is titled to you or leased to you. The clearance the driver needs, the way the container gets set, and the leveling that happens afterward are the same either way.

Clearance matters more than gate width.

A tilt-bed rig needs a straight, clear pull-in to lay a container down flat. For a 20-ft container, plan on roughly 65 feet of clear approach. For a 40-ft container, that number grows to roughly 95 feet, since the trailer needs room to straighten out before it tips.

Overhead clearance the whole way in matters more than how wide your gate is. A tight gate can sometimes be worked with a slow approach. Low branches, power lines, or a carport roof over the path in cannot.

If you are not sure your driveway or yard has the room, walk the path yourself and look up, not just across. Tree limbs that seem high enough for a car often are not high enough for a loaded trailer. Tell us about anything close when you call, a fence corner, a mailbox, a low wire, so the driver knows what to expect before the truck ever leaves the yard.

Where it lands

Firm ground, blocks, and getting it level.

The ground where the container sets needs to be firm enough to carry a fully loaded delivery truck, not just the container once it is empty. Soft dirt, a wet low spot, or loose fill can be a problem for the truck before the container is even off the trailer. Gravel, packed dirt, or a concrete pad all work well.

We level the container on blocks as part of every delivery, buy or rent, so it is not sitting twisted on uneven ground. If your site has a noticeable slope, that is worth a phone conversation before the truck is loaded rather than a surprise on the day, since a bigger slope can change how the container needs to be blocked or where it makes sense to set it instead.

  • Mark the exact spot with a stake, cone, or spray paint before the truck arrives
  • Clear the path of vehicles, trailers, firewood, or anything else in the way
  • Move pets and let anyone else at the property know a delivery truck is coming
  • Have a phone number ready in case the driver needs to reach you from the road
What you are paying for

Delivery is already in the price, not added on.

A used cargo-worthy 20-ft container delivered runs $3,200, and a used cargo-worthy 40-ft runs around $4,900. Renting runs $165 a month for a 20-ft and $235 a month for a 40-ft. Every one of those figures already includes delivery and leveling on blocks, plus the welded lockbox that ships standard on everything we sell or rent. There is no delivery line item that shows up afterward, and nothing about security gets sold to you as an extra once the container is on your ground.

Being this close to Woodlawn does not change the price, since Hillsville already sits well inside our 75-mile free delivery zone. It just tends to make the logistics side of your delivery day simpler to line up.

Hillsville delivery questions

What to expect on delivery day.

Plan on about 65 feet of straight, clear pull-in for a 20-ft container and about 95 feet for a 40-ft container. The trailer tips at the back to set the container down, so it needs a straight approach, not just a wide gate.
A narrow gate can sometimes be handled with a slow approach, but overhead clearance the whole way in matters more. Low branches, wires, or a roofline over the path can stop a delivery that a tight gate alone would not. Walk your path and check overhead before you call us.

No. Delivery and leveling on blocks are already built into every price we quote, whether you are buying or renting, and Hillsville falls well inside our 75-mile free delivery zone. The welded lockbox is standard as well, so nothing gets added once the truck is on site.
