No, not for basic sealed storage. A closed and locked container is dark inside either way, and the welded lockbox does its job with the doors shut. The mistake is treating an interior light as a security feature. What actually helps is an exterior light aimed at the doors and the padlock, wired through the same roughed-in electrical a licensed electrician finishes.
People ask us for lighting expecting it to do the job a lock does. It is an understandable mix-up, since dark and unsecured feel like the same problem. They are not. A container that is closed and padlocked is exactly as secure at noon as it is at midnight, because nobody can see inside it either way with the doors shut.
An interior light changes nothing about that. Nobody sees it unless the doors are already open, and by then the lockbox and the lock either did their job or somebody defeated them, and the light had no part in either outcome.
Notice that only one of those three is about security, and it is the exterior one, not the interior one.
If the box is plain sealed storage, tools and gear behind a locked door, an exterior fixture near the doors is the better spend and often the only one worth making. It removes the cover of darkness for anyone messing with the padlock, which is the same principle behind pointing the doors toward the visible side of a site rather than a dark tree line.
If the box is a mobile office, a workshop, or anything people actually work inside with the doors shut, interior lighting earns its keep for a different reason entirely: you need to see what you are doing, not to deter anyone.
Either way, the panel, the outlets and the switches are roughed in as part of the build. A licensed electrician handles the final hookup and the inspection in your jurisdiction; we do not pull permits or energize it ourselves. Tell us whether you want an exterior fixture, an interior run, or both before delivery, and the conduit path gets built into the container rather than added on after.
Call and we will rough in the electrical for an exterior fixture, an interior run, or both.
