Rural Retreat was originally called Mount Airy, and changed its name to stop the confusion with the other communities using it. We deliver to the Mount Airy that kept the name too, about 22 road miles south of the yard in North Carolina, which is a small piece of trivia that comes up more often than you would think on the phone.

The town grew up around the railroad, and the Rural Retreat Depot went on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014. Delivery is a tilt-bed drop. The trailer backs in, tilts, and eases forward while the container slides off, which means the truck needs a straight approach rather than a tight turn at the end. Sixty to a hundred feet of clear run is the usual requirement.
