Fort Chiswell exists because of the roads. Two interstates meet here, and one of the few double wrong-way concurrencies in the country runs through the junction, where I-77 north and I-81 south share the same pavement. That has always made this a place things pass through, stop at, and get staged.

A place that moves freight accumulates the need to park it somewhere. The old Fort Chiswell outlet mall is long closed, and the community's name goes back to a frontier fort built in 1758 near a lead deposit that mattered during the Revolution. History aside, the modern version of the same idea holds: this is a spot where things get stored on the way to somewhere else.

A 20-ft gives you about 160 square feet, which handles a contractor's tools and materials, a farm's implements and feed, or a household's overflow during a build. A 40-ft roughly doubles it and is the one people pick when they are storing long items, equipment, or inventory they need to walk into and around.

Delivery is a tilt-bed operation. The trailer backs in, tilts, and slides the container off while easing forward, so the truck needs a straight run at the spot rather than a tight pivot. Roughly 60 to 100 feet of clear approach is the usual ask.

The rest of the checklist:

• Ground firm enough to hold a loaded truck, not soft fill or fresh grade
• Overhead clearance under limbs and service lines
• A pad close to level, because an out-of-level container fights the doors
• Gate and turn widths, usually the tightest part of a farm or shop entrance
