Sparta sits about 32 road miles from our yard at 5567 Elk Horn Rd in Woodlawn. The run goes out through Galax and up onto the Blue Ridge plateau, and it's one of the shortest hauls we make in any direction. Worth saying plainly, because people see a state line and assume a trip charge. There isn't one. A good many Virginia towns on our service area list are farther from this yard than Sparta is.

What's under the tires is the real question. A loaded tilt-bed on soft ground doesn't sink politely, it buries. Pasture that walks fine on a dry Tuesday can be a bad idea two days after a hard rain, and the plateau holds water longer in spring and late fall than people expect. On the Virginia side, the statewide building code exempts a container used for storage from the building code itself. Fill it with tools, feed, or furniture and the state treats it as storage, not as a building. It isn't the rule where you are.
North Carolina treats accessory buildings differently, and a 20-ft or 40-ft container is usually large enough to land on the permit side of that line.
