Buying in Wytheville

The one place you can put your hand on it first.

Most container buying happens over the phone or off a website, and you find out what you bought when it comes off the trailer. Wytheville is the exception in our service area, because our sales lot is here, at 2220 East Lee Highway, and you are welcome to come look.

That matters more than it sounds. Container grades are described with words like cargo-worthy and wind and watertight, and those words cover a range. Standing in front of two units and seeing the difference in the floor, the door gaskets, and the surface rust tells you more in five minutes than any spec sheet.

Call (276) 237-6144 before you come out so somebody is here to walk you around and open doors. The main yard, where the containers are staged and where the modification shop lives, is about 32 road miles away in Woodlawn.

What a purchase includes

One price, out the door, security already on it.

A used cargo-worthy 20-ft starts around $3,200 and a 40-ft starts around $4,900, delivered. Wytheville is inside our 75 road mile free delivery and leveling zone, so that figure is the delivered figure. There is no mileage line and no fuel surcharge waiting at the end.

The welded lockbox is on it. Every container we sell, and every one we rent for that matter, has the lockbox fitted before it leaves. It is not an upgrade, it is not quoted separately, and nobody is going to try to sell it to you at the door.

  • Delivery and leveling inside the free zone, included
  • Welded lockbox, included
  • Wind and watertight, with the doors checked before we pull out
  • A grade you picked after seeing what the grades actually look like

Our grades guide explains what cargo-worthy and one-trip mean, and the inspection checklist is what to look at when you are standing in front of one.

Sizing it

About 160 square feet, or about 320.

A 20-ft gives you roughly 160 square feet and fits in places a 40-ft simply will not. A 40-ft gives you roughly 320 and is the better value per square foot, if you have the room for it and the room to deliver it.

That second part catches people. The delivery footprint is bigger than the storage footprint, because the truck needs a straight approach of roughly 60 to 100 feet to slide the box off. A 40-ft needs meaningfully more room to place than a 20-ft does.

Wytheville sits at the crossing of I-77 and I-81, and the buyers we see here reflect that: contractors working both corridors, small trucking and equipment outfits, retail and restaurant inventory, and farms on the surrounding county ground.

If you want the size comparison in detail, our 20 ft versus 40 ft guide covers both footprints.

How ordering works

From the lot to your ground in about a week.

Come look, or describe what you need on the phone and we will tell you what is on the ground. Once you have picked a unit and a size, we confirm the site, schedule the tilt-bed, deliver it, set it level, and check the doors swing true before we leave.

If you want it modified first, we build in-house in Woodlawn: man doors, windows, roll-up doors, vents, shelving, insulation. Single modifications typically add a few days, a full build-out one to a few weeks. On anything with power we rough in the electrical, and a licensed electrician does the final hookup and inspection. Every modification is itemized on a written quote.

On rules, Wythe County is an unusual case worth reading before you order, and our Wythe County permit page lays out where it stands and who to call.

Not sure buying is right yet? Buy versus rent shows where the cost lines cross, and the main Wytheville page covers everything else we do here.

Wytheville container sales questions

Buying a container in Wythe County.

Yes, and this is the town where that is easiest. Our sales lot is at 2220 East Lee Highway in Wytheville. Call (276) 237-6144 first so someone is there to walk you around and open doors, since the lot is not staffed all day.
Used cargo-worthy 20-ft containers start around $3,200 and 40-ft units start around $4,900, and Wytheville is inside our 75 road mile free delivery and leveling zone, so those are delivered figures. Grade and size move the price; the trip does not.
No. The welded lockbox is on every container we sell and every container we rent, fitted before it leaves. It is not a line item and we do not quote it separately.
Usually about a week for a straightforward purchase, once we have confirmed the site and scheduled the tilt-bed. If you want modifications first, a single change typically adds a few days and a full build-out runs one to a few weeks, all itemized on a written quote before we start.
Our stock is 20-ft and 40-ft. Specialty sizes such as high cubes are something we source to order rather than keep on the ground, so ask and we will be straight with you about availability and lead time rather than promising something off a lot that does not have it.
